Irene Horan, 88, of Valparaiso passed away Thursday, January 13, 2022. She was born May 21, 1933 in Coaltown, Pennsylvania. Irene was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed babysitting, and caring for nearly every type of animal that can be kept as a pet. She would work privately as a housekeeper and as a result nearly always ended up pet-sitting for her clients, and lovingly so. Her kind and gentle spirit will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
On November 26, 1959 she married Darrell Shumate who preceded her in death in 1998, in 2002 she married John Horan, Jr. who preceded her in death in 2013. Survivors include her children, Edward Shumate of Colorado, Anna Braden of Nappanee, Thomas (Carmen) Shumate of Michigan City & Irene (Edward) Godfrey of Churubusco, and numerous grandchildren & great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, John, George, Mary & Annie.
A visitation will be held Wednesday from 11 am – 1 pm CST at Moeller Funeral Home, Valparaiso with funeral service beginning at 1:00 pm CST and burial to follow at Graceland Cemetery.
