Kathleen Mary Hanley, 77 of Valparaiso, passed away Saturday, May 21, 2022. She was born August 30, 1944 in Chicago, IL to the late Paul Grunenberg and Esther (O’Malley) Cherry. Kathleen graduated from St. Francis High School in Wheaton, IL and made her career in the parking enforcement division of the City of Valparaiso Police Department for 30 years.  She was a devout and lifelong Catholic and a member of St. Teresa of Avila in Valparaiso. Kathleen loved her family dearly and looked forward to the annual O’Malley family picnic. She doted on her grandchildren and showed her unwavering support for them by attending all activities they participated in. Kathleen will be remembered for her quick wit, sense of humor, and unmatched strength.  On August 15, 1997, Kathleen married Roy Hanley, who preceded her in death in 2008. She is survived by her children: Dan Schulz of Valparaiso, Paul (Jenny) Schulz of Morgan Township, Mary Kathryn Kneifel of Valparaiso; grandchildren: Julia, Paul Jr., Zander, Autumn, Taylor, Jaide, Conner, Jonathan, and Daniel; and sisters in law: Barbara Cherry and Marge Cherry. She was preceded in death by her son, Richard Schulz; brothers: John, Tom, and David Cherry; and sister, Eileen Schulz.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 from 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Road, Valparaiso, with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. The funeral mass will begin on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Teresa of Avila, 1511 LaPorte Avenue, Valparaiso. Burial will follow at Angelcrest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Teresa of Avila or St. Joseph Indian School.
